AudioSkills.com에서 조사한 2017년도 DAW의 사용자 분포는 참으로 흥미롭다. 몇 년전 다른 기관에서 시행한 것과 약간의 차이를 보인다.
이 결과를 보면 프로툴스가 막강하다. 그 뒤로 로직 프로와 개러지밴드가 뒤따르고 있다. 이들의 조사에 의하면, Mac 사용자들은 로직 프로, 개러지밴드, 프로툴스 순으로 나타났고, PC 사용자들은 Audacity, 프로툴스, 프리소너스 스튜디오원(Studio One) 순이었다. 무료 DAW의 사용자는 개러지밴드, Audacity, 프로툴스첫사용자(Pro Tools first) 순으로 나타났다.
홈스튜디오 1편에서 이미 언급한 바와 같이 널리 알려진 DAW는 아래와 같다.

정확한 통계자료는 없지만, 국내 음악관련 사이트들에서 보여지는 것으로는 국내 DAW 사용자의 분포는 큐베이스, 프로툴스, 로직 프로 순으로 판단된다. 전세계 사용자들의 분포와 다르게 큐베이스 사용자수가 많은 이유는 프로그램 해킹에 의한 크랙버전이 사용자들에게 유포되었고, 한국문화 자체가 많이 모이는 쪽으로 쏠리는 경향 때문인 것으로 생각된다.
나는 새롭게 홈스튜디오를 만드는 분들에게 몇가지 DAW를 권하고 싶다. Mac 사용자에게는 로직 프로를 강력히 권한다. 로직 프로는 Mac에 최적화되어 있고, 늘 그렇듯이 Apple의 제품들은 비교적 저렴한 가격에 이것저것 쓸만한 것들이 많이 들어 있다. 여러분은 로직 프로에 포함된 높은 수준의 플러그-인들을 사용할 수 있고, 애플이 자랑하는 2만개 이상의 루프(loops)를 이용하여 재미있는 음악을 만들 수 있다.
윈도우즈 사용자에게는 큐베이스를 권하고 싶다. 큐베이스 자체는 값싸지 않다. 그러나 오디오인터페이스에 포함되어 있는 LE(light edition) 버전을 사용하라고 권한다. 몇가지 제약들이 있지만, 이것으로도 충분히 녹음도 하고 음악을 만들 수 있다. 여러분은 LE버전을 사용해 보다가, 괜찮다 싶으면 그 때 오리지널 버전의 큐베이스로 업그레이드 하면 된다. 업그레이드 비용은 매우 합리적인 수준이다. 또한, 여러분이 정보가 필요하거나 사용방법을 알고자 할 때, 국내에는 많은 큐베이스 사용자들이 있어서 정보를 얻기도 쉽다. 이런 이유로 여러분들에게 큐베이스를 권하는 것이다.
프로툴스의 경우에도 최근에 Pro Tools First라는 프로툴스 첫사용자들에 배포하는 버전이 있다. 이것도 프로툴스를 경험해 볼 수 있는 좋은 기회들이다. 몇 몇 오디오인터페이스에 번들로 포함되어 있어서 오디오인터페이스를 구입할 때 눈여겨 볼 필요가 있다. 이와 비슷하게 프리소너스(PreSonus)의 오디오인터페이스에도 PreSonus Studio One이 포함되어 있다. 최근 일부 사용자들의 사용기를 읽어보니 쓸만한 DAW로 생각된다.
홈스튜디오를 처음 만들려는 여러분들은 처음부터 너무 고가의 DAW를 덥썩 구입하지 않기를 바란다. 남들은 좋다고 하는 DAW가 여러분 자신에게는 잘 맞지 않고 불편할 수 있기 때문이다. 가능한 저렴하거나 번들안에 들어 있는 DAW를 사용해 본 후에 선택하라고 권한다. 유튜브 동영상을 많이 보는 것도 DAW를 선택하는데 크게 도움이 된다.

Although there is no accurate statistical data, the distribution of domestic DAW users is judged in the order of Cubase, Pro Tools and Logic Pro. Unlike the distribution of users around the world, the reason for the large number of users of Cubase is that the crack version due to program hacking has been circulated to users, and the tendency is to tend toward the collecting of Korean culture itself.
I would like to recommend some DAWs to those who make new home studio. For Mac users, I strongly recommend Logic Pro. Logic Pro is optimized for the Mac, and as always, Apple’s products have a lot to offer at a fraction of the price. You can use the high-level plug-ins included with Logic Pro and make fun music with more than 20,000 loops Apple boasts.
I would recommend Cubase for Windows users. Cubase itself is not cheap. However, I recommend using the LE (light edition) version included in the audio interface. There are a few limitations, but this can be enough to record and make music. You can use the LE version, and if you do not mind, you can upgrade to the original version of Cubase. The upgrade cost is very reasonable. Also, when you need information or want to know how to use it, there are many users of Cubase in Korea, so it is easy to get information. For this reason, I recommend Cubase to you.
For Pro Tools, there is also a version of Pro Tools First which is distributed to the first Pro Tools users. This is also a good opportunity to experience Pro Tools. It is bundled with several audio interfaces, so you need to watch it when buying an audio interface. Likewise, PreSonus Studio One is included in the audio interface of PreSonus. Recently I read some users’ usage and it seems to be a useful DAW.
If you are just starting out with a home studio, do not buy too expensive DAW from scratch. It is because DAW that others are good is not fit for oneself and can be uncomfortable. It is recommended that you use the DAW in the bundle as low as possible and choose it. Watching a lot of YouTube videos is very helpful in choosing DAW.
