어떤 사양의 컴퓨터이어야 하는가?
최고 사양의 컴퓨터라면 좋겠지만, 일단은 자신이 현재 사용하고 있는 컴퓨터를 사용해 보길 권한다. 그리고 나서 컴퓨터의 사양이 떨어지면, 어떤 부분에서 떨어지는지를 파악한 후에 업그레이드를 하든지 교체를 하든지 해야 한다.
사실, 녹음만 하는데는 우리가 일반적으로 사용하고 있는 컴퓨터도 충분하다. 다만, 믹싱을 하는 과정에서 높은 컴퓨터 사양이 요구될 수 있다. DAW 자체에서 컴퓨터 사양을 일정 수준을 요구하는 경우가 많다. 그 기준에 맞추면, 무난히 녹음과 믹싱이 가능하다.
2018년 1월 기준으로 쿼드코어 CPU, 램 8GB라면 성능에는 크게 지장이 없을 듯 하다. 여기에 HDD 대신에 SSD가 장착되어 있다면 더 좋겠다. 그러나 일반 HDD도 전혀 문제가 되지 않는다.
명심해야 할 것은, 컴퓨터의 사양이 높아진다고 해서 더 좋은 음악이 만들어지는 것은 아니다. 다만, 컴퓨터 사양이 떨어짐으로서 받는 스트레스에서는 어느정도 벗어날 수는 있다.
PC인가? Mac인가?
정답은 없다. 자신이 현재 사용하고 있는 컴퓨터라면 아무런 문제가 없다. 여러분이 현재 PC를 사용하고 있는데, 굳이 Mac을 구입할 필요는 없다는 의미이다. 물론 자신이 앞으로 사용하게 될 DAW가 무엇인지에 의해서 영향을 받을 수는 있다. 예를 들어, 로직 프로의 경우에는 OS X에서만 돌아간다. 즉, 로직 프로는 Mac에서만 구동이 된다. 프로툴스는 이제는 컴퓨터의 종류에 관계없이 잘 구동이 된다.
데스크탑이냐? 랩탑이냐?
홈스튜디오를 만드는 많은 사람들이 ‘노트북을 들고다니면서도 녹음을 해야 할 상황들이 있을꺼야’라는 생각을 한다. 그러나 그럴 일은 없다. 이제 그런 일은 스마트폰이 대신할 수 있는 시대에 살고 있다.
이런 질문을 받는다면, 나는 단호하게 이렇게 대답할 것이다. “묻지마라, 데스크탑이 정답이다.”라고 말이다.
모니터 스크린은 얼마나 커야 하는가?
모니터는 크면 클수록 좋다. 다만, 각 DAW에서 요구하는 최저사양은 되어야 한다. 요즈음 사람들이 사용하는 컴퓨터 모니터라면 충분할 것이다.
나라면?
나는 무조건 Mac을 구입할 것이다. 나에게 가장 익숙한 것이 Mac이고, 내가 사용하는 많은 앱들이 모두 Mac에서 돌아간다. 그리고 Mac은 하드웨어를 연결할 때 어려움이 없다. 드라이버를 깔아야 할 일이 거의 없기 때문이다. 그냥 연결만 하면 모든 것이 오케이이다. 따라서 나는 여러분들이 Mac을 사용하기를 권한다. 다만, 컴퓨터에 대하여 많이 알고 있고 지금 사용하는 PC에 큰 거부감이 없다면 그냥 지금의 컴퓨터를 사용하기를 권한다.
What specifications should the computer be?
It would be nice to have a top-of-the-line computer, but I recommend you try out the computer you are currently using. Then, when your computer is out of specification, you have to figure out where it falls off and upgrade or replace it.
In fact, there are enough computers that we usually use to record. However, a high computer specification may be required in the process of mixing. DAW itself often requires a certain level of computer specifications. If you meet the criteria, it is possible to record and mix easily.
As of January 2018, quad-core CPUs and 8GB of RAM would not have much impact on performance. It would be better if SSDs were installed instead of HDDs here. However, general HDD is not a problem at all.
It should be kept in mind that a higher specification of the computer does not necessarily lead to better music. However, it is possible to escape some stress from the lack of computer specifications.
Is it a PC? Is it a Mac?
there is no answer. There is no problem if you are using a computer that you are currently using. That means you do not have to buy a Mac if you are currently using a PC. Of course you can be influenced by what DAW you are going to use in the future. For example, in the case of Logic Pro, it only runs on OS X. In other words, Logic Pro runs only on Macs. Pro Tools now works well regardless of the type of computer.
Is it a desktop? Is it a laptop?
Many people who make home studios could think that there are situations where they should carry a laptop and record something. But there will be no such thing. Now that’s where smartphones can replace that.
If I am asked this question, I will answer this with a firm resolve. “Desktop is the right answer.”
How big is the monitor screen?
The larger the monitor, the better. However, the minimum specification required by each DAW shall be. A computer monitor that people use these days would suffice.
What if I?
I will buy a Mac unconditionally. The most familiar to me is the Mac, and many of the apps I use run on the Mac. And Macs have no difficulty connecting hardware. There is almost no need to install a driver. Just connect and everything is OK. So I encourage you to use a Mac. However, if you know a lot about computers and do not have a big discomfort with your current PC, I recommend you to use your current computer.
