스피커의 해상도를 확인하기 위한 리퍼런스 음악으로 많이 소개되는 레베카 피전(Rebecca Pidgeon)의 “스패니쉬 할렘(Spanish Harlem)”은 아직도 전설이다. 이 노래는 1994년에 발매된 레베카의 The Raven이라는 음반에 수록된 재즈 음악이다. 노래와 녹음(recording)이 정말 뛰어난 음악이다. 이 노래는 이미 몇몇 가수들에 의해 1950년대부터 녹음이 되었다. 벤 E. 킹(Spragga Benz, 1960년), 클리프 리처드(1961년), 아레사 프랭클린 (1971년) 등이 음반에 이 음악을 수록한 바 있다. 그러나 레베카 피전의 노래가 가장 많이 회자되고 있는 것은 녹음 분야에서 워낙 유명하기 때문이다.
레베카의 노래가 자신의 공간을 가득 채우고 살아 있다. 내가 손을 내뻗으면 가수가 닿을 듯한 공간감, 그리도 단단하면서도 부드러운 베이스기타, 기계음이 아닌 직접 흔들어서 녹음하여 섬세하게 소리가 각각 다른 쉐이커의 소리, 그리고 중반부부터 나오는 현악기의 어우러짐이 잘 느껴진다.
이 음악을 들어보면, 자신이 듣고 있는 스피커의 해상도를 느껴볼 수 있다.
